This is more of a possibility than a McCain-Edwards match. Billary... COUGH, Hillary has denied rumors that she will run for President in 2008. The Clinton's are liars which means, expect Hillary Clinton on the Democratic ticket in 2008. The GOP's will have a few choices, but two stick out: Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani (WHO COULD RUN AS WELL AS A MAYOR AS HE COULD A SENATOR) and National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice (Coolidge's Secretary of Commerce Hoover ran and won) I say a Clinton vs. Rice match would be:

Clinton: 200
Rice: 338

A Clinton vs. Giuliani race:

Clinton: 100
Giuliani: 438

What do you think?

I think the money they save from Alex Rodriguez salary will allow the Rangers to get some pitching.  Finally.

I think a Clinton vs Rice contest would be closer, but I agree with your analysis of Clinton vs Giuliani.

Hillary will not win the nomination as long as she has a real opponent.

This is my projection of a Guliani-Clinton race, with Guliani winning 366-172.

This is my Clinton-Rice map, which it seems ends up in  a 269-269 tie . . .

I think that thanks to bush this country is SO polarized that for a long long time neither party will break the 400 EV barrier for a long time.

I personally think it would be impossible for guilani to win the nomination in any case. We saw how the Bush machine tore apart McCain . In fact the same thing will happen to Guiliani, since the Bush's feel like they deserve to be a dynasty their machine will install Jeb as the nominee.

If Guilani somehow made it to the nomination it would definitely make a powerful and viable right-wing third party. Guilani is truly a good centrist type of guy, so the Ann Coulter wing of the party (we should kill or convert all the Arabs and gays in the world is their motto) will get a candidate. However this image of republicans riping themselves apart to give Kerry an easy ride to the re-election won't happen since the Bushies will be pist and they'll demand another one term bushy.

Not so fast.  The bush machine has satisfied its goal to elect bush, and times are different now.  Giuliani is a big hero.  Remember, no so long ago Giuliani was viewed as a real hardcore fascist by many Democrat New Yorkers.  Now he's "america's mayor"  I don't think the underpinnings are there anymore to destroy Giuliani the way McCain was torn apart.  Yeah, Ann Coulter is a real sweetheart, but republicans like to win.  I don't think the party (in its primaries) are going to pass up the opportunity to nominate rudy.  But then, hey, only a couple of years ago the talking heads were touting Gov. Davis as a possible '04 Democratic front-runner.   (?!)  Best not to get to cocky about these things.

A Giuliani-Edwards race would be good.

Angus,

I didn't say that Guilani would lose, if managed to beat the whoever the bush machine chooses, and keep the far right under his wing, he would win. He would make New York, lean republican.
I was only only responding to Reaganfan's cockyness.  I think 350 EV is about all Guilani would muster.

Giuliani isn't that popular in NY- he can't beat the democratic machine there.

NY would go to Giuliani in a heartbeat. Who knows, if Hillary does not run, Mark Warner or whoever may run against rudy or whoever.

New York would lean republican if it weren't for the nasty Democrats playing dirty pool.  Wink

Every electoral vote is up for grabs every for year my friend.  Sometimes the emperor really is naked.  Punditry is a futile exercise in existentialism.  Kinda like this forum.

Hillary Clinton will never be president of the United States.  I don't care who runs against her, there is just no way she can get 270 electoral votes.  I don't even think Bill Clinton could get 270 now.

In 2008 -

Clinton - as unelectable as ever.  Hated by a slim majority of Americans.

Rice - no chance.  She's never held elected office and is relatively speaking a nobody.

Gulianai - by then he'll either be a has-been, or if he's lucky Senator from NY.  That is his best-case scenario.

Edwards - by 2008 an utter out-of-office has-been.

None of these people has a chance to be President in 2008.  Jeb's chances are far and away better.

All I was saying is he has a better chance than Gulianai, Clinton, Edwards, or Rice.  If Bush gets re-elected, and Jeb wins the primary, he'll be president - because the economy is going to be booming in 2008.

No he won't: DYNASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 2008 we'll be on the fourth year of about 4% growth, unemployment will be about 4.5%, and people won't mind a dynasty under those terms.  Of course it all depends on GW getting re-elected to take credit for his tax cut induced boom.
