My old highschool is banned by Wikipedia too, and for the same reason: people wouldn't stop trying to edit articles to reflect their opinions.

Will the Church of Scientology attempt to sue Wikipedia?

This greatly improves my opinion of Wikipedia. $cientology is a criminal cult which must be attacked by all means possible.

Anyone except people who repeatedly break the rules.

And frankly, the articles on individual Indian upper castes are each and every one of them screaming for enforcement of the same policy.

I'm pretty sure Wiki doesn't want anybody that is part of an organization to alter the wiki page for that organization and they aren't stopping Scientoligists from editing the Scientology page, they are just stopping them from doing from Scientology computers.

Also, it's Wikipedia's website, they can do whatever the hell they want with it, including blocking specific people for whatever idiotic reason they want.  Just like Dave can do with this place.  Nobody has any inherent "freedom of speech" on a website they don't own just like you don't in some random dude's front yard.

You wish! Smiley

I read in another article that it was Wiki's "Supreme Court" that decided on the ban, which I thought was cute.

Well I don't care, I only go on wiki to find quick and random science info anyway.

Oh, there's a ton of stuff like that. The Church of Scientology IPs were perma-banned because they have an institutional structure that allowed them to coordinate vandalism on Wikipedia. There's no range of IPs for various caste-warring Hindus or for the Greco-Macedonian combatants or for angry Serbs and Kosovars or for any of the other ongoing edit wars on Wikipedia. So the accounts get banned, and IPs sometimes get blocked, but there's no way to actually eliminate the problem in the same way that it was possible to eliminate the Scientology problem by banning all IPs owned by the Church of Scientology.

Why is that? I don't really see disputes on those pages although I haven't read most of them. Can you point me to a specific case? I guess they don't list what atrocities may have been committed in the past by the caste, but isn't that more appropriate for the page discussing the caste system as a whole?

I mean, if an organization is substantively and systematically determined to slant Wikipedia's reporting, such that it requires more than constant vigilance but rather 24/7/365-no-bathroom-breaks defense, I think Wikipedia deserves these safeguards

It's clearly against the rules to do this anyway and I doubt these computers from these IP addresses are editing articles on spoons or mountain goats or whatever.  By the way, who would spend an hour of their life writing about the spoon on wikipedia?

Nah, I think he laughs at such people while simultaneously encouraging them since they help his project.

I have a hard time believing he is involved in editing inane random things that don't need defining whatsoever
