Goddard is probably the strongest candidate for the Democrats.

Gordon would get whipped by just about any Republican candidate.

Major Republican alternatives to Brewer have not publicly emerged (yet).

Brewer may have dug her own political grave by touting tax increases.  Although, now that a couple of major opinion polls have shown the public (especially Republican voters) are massively opposed to such increases, she may back off her enthusiasm for increasing taxes.

Forgive my limited knowledge of Arizona politics, but why would Gordon be such a weak candidate?

Well, right now he is going through a divorce which may well turn nasty.

Also, he is an advocate of amnesty.
