A Watts pick would have been seen as tokenism of the worst sort. Would have backfired badly.

Your right about the pick by McCain.  It wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever.  I also think that your map is right on.  Hillary would not have targeted Indiana or NE 01, and I don't think she would have fared quite as well as Obama did in NC.  I do think she would have fared better than Obama in WV, MO, and AR.  She would have also been competetive in TN & KY, but she would not have been competetive in Montana or the Dakotas.  And I also think her popular vote victory would have been about 6% rathar than 7%, but that's pure speculation on my part.
