Smart for the GOP.  CT is the one place where I wouldn't run generic businessman #5 due to obvious baggage with every millionaire in that state right about now.  Lunsford works in Kentucky but not Connecticut.

I think Dodd is way more vulnerable than people give him credit for.  His ties to the insurance industry, while hurting him for obvious reasons, also have the less-obvious advantage of a lot of fundraising potential.

Another one of my undervalued picks regarding 2010 is Menendez compared to Schumer in the last cycles.  I signed up for the DNSC's emails ages ago and have heard barely a peep.  I don't get the feeling that our favorite New Jersey senator will be an effective recruiter and forced-retirer...  If Dodd "retires" I'll be happy and impressed with Bob.  We'll see.

I wouldn't be shocked to see a Democrat primary Dodd if his numbers don't improve soon.

I'm still new to the CT political scene.  I'm thinking about becoming learned in it and figuring out what's going on like I have New York, Illinois, or, to a lesser extent, Florida and Kentcky.  Anyway, things are getting exciting.  I'd be shocked to not see at least one Democrat attempt to primary Dodd.  The question is statewide stature.

Blumenthal is the one to watch  He is currently on a track to primary Lieberman, having passed the baton on to Lamont to primary him last time around, so he can't be THAT ambitious.  Like I've said in that other thread, the possibility of a Senator Blumenthal in 2011 is underrated.

It wouldn't be Blumenthal, unless Dodd's numbers really crater.  He said he's not interested and will run for reelection in 2010.

Ned Lamont also claimed he's not interested, and may be running for governor in 2010.  But again, if Dodd's numbers crater (and/or Rell looks unbeatable), that can change even more quickly than Blumenthal, since Lamont hasn't announced he's running for anything yet.

Quinnipiac  released a poll last week showing Simmons barely leading Dodd 43-42.  That was despite 53% of voters not knowing who Simmons is.  Dodd lead Kudlow and State Senator Sam Caligiuri  by 10 - but didn't get over 50% against either of them.

At least Dodd's job approval rating went up from -7 Quinnipiac's February survey to +5 in the March survey.  There's been some improvement.

Yeah I saw those statements and the poll.  But I don't trust them, as you pointed out, unless Dodd really starts cratering or announces his retirement.  Neither are necessarily unlikely.

Lamont...eh.. I don't think he wants his schtick to be the guy who unsuccessfully tries to throw money at Democratic politicians in order to primary them.

I doubt that generic state senator #8 can successfully primary the corrupt bastard child of the banking industry with its full, but handicapped, financial backing.  I'll perhaps look up who the aspiring go-getters are in the near future.

I'm fine with this. It is looking like for once we can get... you know.. a good candidate to run for Senate finally.

I won't personally endorse Simmons yet...but obviously, he's somebody I'd seriously consider voting for if I lived in Connecticut.

I worked for Dodd back in 2004, and he just isnt the same man he used to be. I feel like I just cant trust him anymore. Thats why I'll support Simmons.

I just hope someone challenges him in a primary.  We can't afford to lose a senate seat in a state like Connecticut where all 5 representatives are Democrats.

This site highlights some of the similarities between Thomas Dodd's 1970 bid, and Chris Dodd's 2010 bid. Tongue There are actually quite a few similarities... and it's not a bad Connecticut site.

What are the chances of Gov. Jodi Rell running?  I'd think she'd be a formidable opponent in the general.

Figures.  I think she'd make a pretty good Senator and could possibly win given her popularity in Connecticut.

Yeah, since Blumenthal pretty much said that he wont be running for Governor in 2010, she'll just go ahead with her free pass to stay Governor.

Well, add another man to the race. It looks like Jack Orchulli, the 2004 candidate against Dodd will probably be running again.
