I think he would be a good president....but I don't think he'll ever run, nor would he get elected.

Cheney will not run in 2008. He is the first Vice President since Spiro Agnew to state he will never be a candidate for President.

That's a shame too. A man as inteligent as him would make a good president, but his secretive charecter might create a Nixonian atmosphere in Washington if he became President.

In the VP debate tonight, he said that one advantage he had was that he could give advice to the President without looking out how it was going to appeal to precinct chairmen in Iowa in 4 years.  Edwards looked a bit chagrined.

Yeah, a Cheney run is very unlikely. Never say never, though. If he'd run, he might even win - if he'd run, it would be (in part) because the situation was so that he could win.

Is Cheney a Born Again?

I suppose his views on tolerating the homosexuals suggest otherwise.

I don't think Cheney gives a sh!t either way about social issues, he's from the plutocracy and imperialism wing of the GOP.

The wing I could so easily live with if they only hadn't made their foolish bargain with the dark side.  Or the Dark Ages side, if you will.

Assuming Bush wins and Cheney doesn't run in 2008, 2008 would be the first election since 1952 to not involve a sitting President or Vice President.

no, since Humphrey was VP at the time

2000 - Vice President Gore
1996 - President Clinton
1992 - President Bush
1988 - Vice President Bush
1984 - President Reagan
1980 - President Carter
1976 - President Ford
1972 - President Nixon
1968 - Vice President Humphrey
1964 - President Johnson
1960 - Vice President Nixon
1956 - President Eisenhower

1952 was the last truly open election

I don't think Cheney would run. I especially don't think the party would make him their featured guy in the primaries.

Unlikely.

I think Cheney would, if anything, be a better president than Bush, he has fewer gaffes and is not as socially conservative.

However, he's kinda old, has heart problems, and has an entrenched 'Prince of Darkness' image that could be hard to overcome. I mean, just mentioning 'Haliburton' to some people will cause them to go bananas.

Dick Cheney will never run. Not because he's too far too the right, no so, or because of Halliburton. It is because he will be older, his heart will continue to weaken and he isn't much of a people person. He isn't charismatic enough to be President and he knows that. He likes working in the background. Smart guy just not alot of charisma, especially when ever second person makes fun of him for either being a grumpy old man or a crooked criminal who should rot in jail. Expect a Giuliani run in '08 possibly paired up with a Conservative VP.
