Have the Republican and Democratic parties trade names … and, in that case, the Republican Party will be able to carry District of Columbia.

That's true because the DC voters aren't smart enough to look at the names.

Wait what???

It's not going to happen without a major realignment of the parties, and I see no sign that one is going to happen anytime soon.

It wouldn't vote GOP if Jesus himself were the nominee.

I beg to differ.

Why? Even during the start of the Republican Revolution (!), a man convicted of a drug crime (!!) was elected mayor 56 to 42.

There's absolutely nothing that would make DC Republican. Even a liberal Republican wouldn't win.

I think people over-estimate how black DC is; it's only like 55% and falling. That said, the white people who are replacing them aren't conservative at all.

No, they tend to be people with a vested interest in big government.

Because most African-Americans love Jesus and would vote for him.

This.  If the major parties switched positions in the "big government/small government" department, then the GOP would have a good chance at carrying MD/DC/NoVA.

No, Government employees.  I'm not particularly fond of people who make 6 digits running some thrice-copied regulatory board somewhere.

It's a parasite alright and in the last election the scum and hive of democrats who live there actually were able to bleed into VA. When you don't stop such cancers, eventually the cancer spreads and in our case one state to the next until America is overrun by the communist types who reside there. What I have just typed, most DC liberals would proudly admit to by the way.

You sound like a Nazi, just fyi.

Haha after reading that a second time I think you're right. I especially like the last part. What I typed, most DC liberals would proudly admit to.

What does being a Nazi have to do with anything here? And why do you always rain on my parade? Are you proud to be like what I mentioned and not care that you're part of a cancer to this country?

Outdated from conservative ideas? You know what the conservatives want for this country is actually much newer than socialism which goes back to the days of the Egyptian pharaohs where the kings and emperors got whatever they wanted from the little people and used the military to enforce the government's power. The idea that people can make decisions and choices economically on their own wasn't really around until the physiocrats and wasn't implemented until our founding fathers. You're comparing conservatives with the word outdated because you haven't been taught that conservative as it refers to Republicans really refers to social conservatism and economic liberties.

As far as being a cancer to the country, look at how CA, NY, and IL are doing compared to TX in terms of economic growth. Then try to tell me that the democrats' ways are the way we should go. I'd rather have our country have job growth and wealth creation with people actually wanting to live there unlike California with a drought due to government intervention of water, saving a bush from a road construction project, and courts overriding ballot measures because the people don't vote in line with the far left on issues like gay marriage.

Democrats also allow people to make their own choices. People could make choices for all of history. And living in California isn't that bad. The reason we have huge budget problems because conservatives passed Proposition 13 and that cost the state a lot of revenue. And Democratic Presidents always created more jobs (each year, percentagewise) than Republican Presidents. Always. So stop badmouthing the Democrats and saying things that aren't true.

No they don't always create more jobs. You don't know what you're talking about. Ask Jimmy Carter. You sound like you're quoting either your school teachers, the news, or the union news letter. I'm not familiar with Proposition 13 but there are far more problems in CA and conservatives can't possibly outnumber democrats on anything there without help from at least a sizable portion of the other party. For example, the vote against gay marriage was supported by several democrats and independents. Blaming the conservatives for a problem in CA is like blaming a flood for a drought.

Democrats actually do create more jobs than Republicans. Carter created more jobs per year than Reagan did. And there are many people in CA who are conservative only on certain issues like taxes.

I don't know anyone under 60 who ever thinks of the NY Times as a reliable source of information. Fox leads the way in breaking stories which makes the other news networks cringe but nonetheless is mostly responsible for breaking all stories in today's day in age. I'm not interested in facts being skewed to only support democrats.

There

So FoX is more daring on stories of violent crimes than is the NYT. So what? FoX News has an agenda, and one way of making right-wingers out of people is to slant the news so that it makes the world seem a dangerous place due to frequent stories of senseless crime.

FoX also has an economic agenda -- an attempt to shift the culpability of those whose bad behavior in the Double Zero Decade (real estate shysters, predatory lenders, fraudulent raters of securitized bad loans)  to an Administration that has tried to do much to undo the mess. FoX is mostly journalistic stooges of the GOP,  which is true even in its coverage of business news. FoX clearly stands for entrenched elites, and continuously harps upon the "need" to enrich those elites lest there be another big downturn in the economy. Perhaps because our economic system failed about everyone but the super-rich we got the recent severe downturn; FoX News wants more of what got us into economic trouble.

It has also made exaggerated claims of the efficacy of the Tea Party movement and its numerical support. It gave wildly inflated numbers of participants at rallies -- rallies smaller than commonplace Gay Pride rallies. There are ways of estimating crowd size, but there are also ways of using camera angles to ensure that all that shows is a crowd.

The truth is that people aware of the techniques of propaganda see those techniques in FoX "News".   The only reason for me to watch FoX News is to see right-wingers eat crow after some political defeat.

Oh, by the way -- reference to whole groups of people as "parasites", "infections", and "cancers" is typical Nazi rhetoric.

A possible scenario:

Edwards gets the nomination quickly and easily; he "love child" story comes out right after the convention and keeps snowballing, but he refuses to withdraw. Disgusted liberal donors give to McKinney, who uses the money to run a semblance of a campaign. She specifically targets DC and comes out strongly for DC statehood. Guiliani decides not to run and instead endorses McCain early on. McCain then doesn't lose momentum or plummet in the polls so he never has to retool his campaign and thus never really gives up his maverick semi-moderate image. He wins early and campaigns hard for the General. In late October, while in his DC HQ, some ambitious staffers convince him to go door-to-door locally even in some of the poorer neighborhoods. It gets great press (think "Cheney visits Hawaii" times a hundred) and resonates really well with the locals who are pleasantly surprised to be getting direct attention from a Presidential candidate when their votes are usually taken for granted.

Results in DC end up being something like 35% McCain, 33% Edwards, 30% McKinney.

Of course, highly unlikely chain of events, but it's hypothetically possible anyway.
