On September, 5th 1975...The Nation suffered yet another Presidential assasination in the death of Gerald Ford. Rocky becomes the 39th President and selects former Secretary of Treasury John Connally as his VP. Ronnie decides against running against Rocky who proceeds to battle it out with Carter for the Presidency. Can Rocky finally win the Preisdency in his own right? If he dies in 1979 as in 'otl what happens in '80? I find this a fascinating scenario that really hasn't been discussed in this forum.

I doubt that Rockeffeler would win Texas or that Carter would carry Illinois.

1976 was the last time that the Democrats carried Texas in reality. 2012 is a fairly good opening if Obama is effective.

Yeah I think px's is probably right, Texas could swing either way...Having Connally on the ticket would definatley be a boost for Rocky but Jimmy could still pull it off. Although I do excepect Rocky would win in this scenario, its still going to be hella close post Watergate.

I base Rockefeller winning Texas on the fact that popular former Governor Connally is his running mate.  Texas goes, narrowly, for Rockefeller and Connally, with Connally making the difference.
