I consider 1912 the first modern election so...

(this has probably been done already)

I would have voted this way:

1912: Roosevelt vs. Taft vs. Wilson
1916: Hughes vs. Wilson
1920: Cox vs. Harding
1924: Coolidge vs.  Davis
1928: Hoover vs. Smith Tough Choice
1932: Hoover vs. FDR
1936: FDR vs. Landon
1940: FDR vs. Willikie
1944: FDR vs. Dewey
1948: Dewey vs. Truman Tough Choice, I Like Both
1952: Eisenhower vs. Stevenson
1956: Eisenhower vs. Stevenson
1960: Kennedy vs. Nixon Tough
1964: LBJ vs. Goldwater
1968: Humphrey vs. Nixon Tough
1972: Nixon vs. McGoveren
1976: Ford vs. Carter
1980: Carter vs. Reagan
1984: Reagan vs. Mondale
1988: Bush vs. Dukakis
1992: Clinton vs. Perot vs. Bush
1996: Clinton vs. Dole
2000: Gore vs. Bush Gore in retrospect...
2004: Bush vs. Kerry Both were incompetent...
2008: Obama vs. McCain Lesser of Two Evils

Trying to be as honest as possible...

1912: Debs
1916: Benson (though I guess the temptation to vote Hughes for ethnic reasons may have been there)
1920: Debs
1924: LaFollette
1928: Thomas, if in a state where he was on the ballot. Presumably Smith, if not.
1932: Thomas
1936: FDR
1940: FDR
1944: FDR
1948: Truman or Wallace. It really depends on a couple of things that's hard to tell.
1952: Stevenson
1956: Stevenson
1960: JFK
1964: LBJ
1968: HHH
1972: If I were the sort to sit elections out... but I'm not. McGovern, though probably wouldn't have been all that open about it.
1976: Carter
1980: If I were the sort to sit elections out... but I'm not. Carter
1984: Mondale
1988: Dukakis
1992: Clinton
1996: If I were the sort to sit elections out... but I'm not. Clinton
2000: Gore
2004: Kerry
2008: Obama (however irritatingly cynical I found (and find) elements of his campaigning to be, this wouldn't have been a sit-out anyway...)

I think this has been done before, and I think I've posted in the thread... but I'm going to take this to mean we have the benefit if hindsight. That said:

1912: Roosevelt vs. Taft vs. Wilson
1916: Hughes vs. Wilson
1920: Cox vs. Harding
1924: Coolidge vs.  Davis
1928: Hoover vs. Smith
1932: Hoover vs. FDR
1936: FDR vs. Landon
1940: FDR vs. Willikie
1944: FDR vs. Dewey

We're doing this without hindsight, right? Assuming that, this is how I most likely would have voted.

1912: Roosevelt
1916: Hughes
1920: Cox
1924: Coolidge
1928: Hoover
1932: FDR
1936: FDR (I really really like Landon....but I doubt I would have voted against Roosevelt)
1940: Wilkie
1944: FDR
1948: Truman
1952: Eisenhower
1956: Eisenhower
1960: Kennedy
1964: Johnson
1968: Humphrey
1972: Nixon
1976: Ford
1980: Anderson
1984: Mondale
1988: Bush
1992: Clinton
1996: Clinton
2000: Bush (I'm sorry folks....but I think that's how I would have voted...regretfully)
2004: Kerry
2008: Obama (which I also did Smiley)

Debs is funny. I think he is the greatest socialist ever. He really cared for the people. I may be an economic conservative, but Debs genuinely cared about the common man.

Very true. Both 1912 and 1920 were tough calls for me. I'm not a big fan of voting for 3rd parties, but might have made exceptions those years.

Yes, I hold dual citizenship, and I have no obligation to give up either one at any time. Meaning I can vote in both countries' elections Smiley
