I'm a blue dog democrat because I'm not fond of top down social engineering or massive deficits. Honestly, I don't fit that well in the dems. If the GOP returned to it's pre-reagan roots and the new england/rockefeller/gypsy moth republicans came back from the dems I'd be a solid republican but unfortunately, types like me have no recourse but to go dem.

I don't do this faction thing very much. It's overdone. Having said that, I guess I am part of that well, vanishing breed to some extent, even though on a few issues, I am still a pretty red meat conservative.

You have a negative social score and an econ score less than +3. You're not a red meat con. You're center-left.

lol being +3 on econ is not being center left. In europe that would be being a nutjob and in America that is a being a pretty typical moderate Republican.

I am rather red meat on the death penalty, the racial and ethnic spoils system, school vouchers, tort lawyers, and moving ASAP to a British system of court procedures (no juries except for serious crimes, loser pays attorneys fees, no jury voir dire, etc), for English immersion in secondary school for those who have some other language than English as their primary language, and the self protective predatory nature of the government bureaucracy. Every time I think about the public employee pension system, I have to remind myself that it is not good for my health. I also worry about the end game of a single payer health care system.

I take one issue at a time, and try not to  let ideological package deals get in the way of coming to a reasoned judgment, all things considered. I am a micro kind of guy.

Al, what factions does Labor have and which one are you in/closest to? I don't know the first thing about the coalitions of the UK's parties so I'm curious.

You are aware that the Political Matrix social score includes things such as the USA PATRIOT Act which aren't really social issues, so having a negative social score doesn't necessarily mean one is a social leftist.

No red meat conservative would vote for Obama.  Sorry Torie, but you are a centrist.

I think I would be in the DLC if I actually was a Democratic supporter.

In France, I'd be a Radical (or Blue Ecologie) within the UMP, but I don't really support the UMP all that much.

I'm in the (anti-Elizabeth May) centre-right faction of the Greenies here, or in the small Red Tory faction of the Liberal Party.

I'm a run of the mill liberal in the Democratic Party, as evidenced by my Matrix score. (or a Progressive, if you're afraid of being tainted with the liberal charge)

I'm probably closer to the middle-upper class California Democrats (generally in support free trade) than San Francisco + Berkeley lefties who are -9, -9 on the Matrix score though.

I'm from the smart, cool, funny, physically strong, good-looking, rich, nice-smelling, well-endowed, has-rythm faction of the Republican Party.  I don't really fit in anywhere else.
