In 1896
Senator Nelson W Aldrich of Rhode Island defeats Governor William McKinley of Ohio to win the Republican Presidential nomination.
Aldrich had served in the U.S. House of Representatives 1879-1881, and had been serving in the U.S. Senate since 1881.
To unite the party, Aldrich picks his defeated nomination rival, Governor William McKinley of Ohio as his Vice Presidential running mate.
The Democrats nominate William Jennings Bryan of Nebraska, who had been a member of the House of Representatives 1891-1895.
Bryan picks wealthy bank executive, industrialist, and member of the Democratic National Committee, Arthur Sewall of Maine, for Vice President, in an effort to win the support from the more conservative elements in the Democratic Party.

Democrat William Jennings Bryan (NE)/Arthur Sewall (ME)
Does Aldrich win the Presidency, and become the first, and only, Rhode Islander ever elected President? (None have ever been elected President or Vice President)
Please discuss, using maps if you wish.
