Let's say the 1968 Republican Convention in Miami is deadlocked between Nixon, Reagan and Rockefeller and the Conservative yet popular actor John Wayne emerges as the Compromise canidate? He then chooses the liberal yet experienced Senator of New Jersey, Clifford. P. Case to balance the ticket. With the Democratic and Indpendent tickets the same as OTL, what happens in the General Election? Could the Duke pull off a win?

John Wayne is a sensation on the campaign trail, however, the public opts for the very politically experienced Humphrey to lead the nation in this troubling year.

Humphrey/Muskie               287
Wayne/Case                       198
Wallace/LeMay                     53

Yeah, your map looks about right...John Wayne although would be a firestrom on the campaign, it would be a close for Humphrey...I think the most interesting results of this would be the '72 election. After 12 years of Democratic rule, HHH would probably loose out a resurgent Rocky( After the last two elections placed conservatives over the top, the GOP would probably learn their leason and finally nominate a moderate).
