The Globe reports that formuh House Speakuh Tom Finneran has asked George W. Bush to pardon him for his perjury conviction. He has the support of Dukakis, Weld, Cellucci (a friend of Bush's), and Jane Swift. Mitt Romney declined to offer his support, and Kerry and Kennedy weren't asked.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/1/8/124556/6319Now, Finneran is a conservative on many issues, like George W. Bush. He is pro-life and believes in the sanctity of marriage. I don't know if he supported Bush's 2004 election; I would guess that he did not, because of Kerry's Massachusetts ties. He expresses real remorse for his perjury and says he was motivated to lie by anger at people's suggestion he wanted to hurt minority voting rights. He has done his time and doesn't like people using his conviction as an excuse to attack public servants.
It hasn't been five years since his conviction, but Bush can waive that if he's sufficiently convinced of Finneran's good heart and remorse.
What do we think? Can Cellucci swing it for him? Can Finneran motivate any campaign contributions from the Bay State to encourage Bush to take a second look at his case?
