I didn't differentiate by race and why would I?  On Average They hold the same social views are their scots-irish/yankee transplant neighbors. The only difference is they favor economic liberalism and vote reflexively democrat because the GOP in dixie plays the race card covertly.

True, but only through immigration of Northerners into the region. Would it not be for all the transplants in South Florida, the Research Triangle and NOVA those states would be as backward as the rest of the south.

If we actually kicked the South out, theyd be petitioning to be allowed back into the Union after 2 years. Race riots would break out when the South reinstated segregation and sharecropping and the country would default on its loans and be kicked out of the WTO due to poor fiscal policies.

Oh, yes, you Northerners sure are progressive:  Eric Holder, defending corporations that gun down labor leaders in Latin America (the Chiquita company); Goolsbee and Volcker, economic darwinists extraordinaire.  How did school busing in Boston go?  Tell me, what two states are home to the most klan members?  But Obama & co. are all pro-choice and culturally liberal, so it's all good.  And then there's that pesky, subjective exit poll data that shows Obama improving upon Kerry's numbers with just about every demographic in North Carolina and Virginia (in the face of being called socialist), incl. those "close-minded" Evangelicals whose churches somehow find their way into every single state in the nation.  Fine, if you think the Democratic Party should extricate itself from a region that will about 38% of the population (and when you do, believe me, you sacrifice other places too), be prepared to be a minority party.  Of course, then you can be EMO about it and print your United States of Canada maps, talking about how liberal you are.  I guess we can have two libertarian major parties (one that just plays the culturally-populist card, though Mitt 3.0, might go Ayn Rand on us again) that cater to wealthy Northern college kids, the only ones who know all about the world and open-mindedness.

Oh, the South has problems.  But those problems stem from an economic system that values racial and cultural warfare.  Some of those states have wanted to be less a part of that (both the provocation and the reaction) and move on to things that in which politics can really effect change (putting food on the table and economic justice and job secuirty, not making us more "moral" or "tolerant").  Notice how, specifically, North Carolina hasn't had same-sex marriage ballot measures?  Notice how, after 32 years of voting for Republican presidential candidates, enough of us decide that we'd go Democratic the year they nominated an African-American.  The North is becoming just as reactionary as Alabama whites--except coming at it from a different angle (reactionary to reactionaries!).  They'd rather talk about how pro-choice or open-minded they are than prosecute war profiteers and white-collar thugs.

Most of us aren't of yankee stock.  My European white-trash ancestors, all of whom were catholic and jews, and none of whom were protestant or english, and who migrated to this great country in the early 20th century were treated like dogs.  I recognize that in most of the world "yankee" means any white person from the U.S., but here it means yankee.  And, if that wasn't clear, the poster made sure to say "true yankee."  I.e., the George Bushes of the world.  Connecticut-born, Connecticut-bred, descendents of Puritan congregationalists and moralists who gave you Prohibition of alcohol and the Salem Witch Trials.  No thank you.

I never called you or anyone else a racist.  It's an overused word, one that has lost all meaning, and one that I carefully avoid using.  But you have made incredibly bigoted statements, and if you're serious about them, then I respectfully label you a bigot.  I am not practicing psychology.  I simply stated that you (and others) are a very bitter man, and suggested that there's a reason for it.  I don't know what that reason is, but I have no doubt that your mocking hatred of others stems from a deprived sense of self.  This doesn't require a special training to recognize.  You have my sympathy, but getting sand kicked in your face doesn't excuse your general hatred of others, whether they be discriminated against by their region of birth or any other criterion.

On a more important note, today former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack was named today to be agriculture secretary.  So I guess my comment that there are no Iowans in the Obama administration is no longer valid.  Ironically, Vilsack was one of the few Iowans who didn't support Obama.  He initially ran for the Democrat nomination but dropped out of the race early because he had trouble raising money. He endorsed Clinton and campaigned for her.

Was hilarious how during the election campaign Southern Reactionary Republicans claimed that the Industrial North was more racist than the South. "Sure the south has problems, but weve changed!''.

Obama performed 9 points better than Kerry nationally yet, underperformed him significantly in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, West Virginia and Louisiana. Several other Southern States trended strongly against him, while Northern Industrial states backed him unanimously.

Things still havent changed much. Real Murricans just cant pull the lever for the race that their ancestors have been hating on for centuries.
