Any idea why Dole got so few votes here, and why turnout was so low?

It seems like there is something wrong with the results. No real reason for Republican turnout to have so much worse than it was in either 1992 or 2000. It had the largest Dem swing in 1996 and the largest GOP swing in 2000 of any county in WV.

And as further evidence, there were more than 1,000 more votes cast for Governor in Tyler County than there were for President in 1996.

If I had to guess, I'd say Dole probably actually got 1,734 votes instead of 734, and that someone deleted the 1.

I suspect that "1" may have been missed out of "1734". I remember that we had a discussion about this result a few years ago and no one came up with a good answer.

Yeah, annoying to those of us county map junkies when that happens.

Also makes you wonder why people are so quick to accept a 537 vote victory in a state as legitimate. Smiley
