Thank God, I thought the PA Dems would put up a fight against Toomey once he wins the primary

Obviously...if it really turns out to be Specter against Matthews...

I endorse Arlen Specter.

I'm just trying to picture Chris Matthews giving a stump speech in that half-yelling voice of his. Or speaking on the Senate floor.

He's not getting out of the primary. Allyson is going to have fun with this one.

The only way he wins is if the populist types come out in droves to stop Schwartz. I doubt that that happens.

I suppose Chris Matthews in the Senate would at least be interesting.

Indeed, Matthews would make an amusing center, and not in a freak way like Franken

How is someone who voted for Bush in 2000 going to win the Democratic Primary?

I'd be pretty surprised if that clip didn't appear in a TV ad though.

If he has a well-funded primary opponent.

If Nutter and Rendell back him he's guaranteed to win the primary - those two are kingmakers

eww

If he somehow managed to get the Democratic nomination and there were no third party candidates on the ballot, I might actually have to endorse the Republican.

Uh, no. Nutter isn't a kingmaker. They could both back him and he'd still struggle against Schwartz. He is in no way a guarantee.

Specter said he's not only prepared for Matthews but also prepared for a primary challenge - http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/

Obviously Matthews should hang it up from MSNBC if he runs for office. That's a clear conflict of interest.

His contract expires in June and I don't think he can run for Senate as a non-politician and work a full-time job simultaneously anyway.

It'd make for pretty hilarious (but unethical and illegal) news updates.  "In other news, Arlen Specter ran another two-faced, lying attack at against Chris Matthews.."

Chris Matthews continues to not fool anybody

From Politico:
Camden, New Jersey isn't a regular stop for the Beltway power elite, so a reader steeped in the local politics was a bit surprised to see the Hardball host popping up there at a fundraiser hosted by local power broker George Norcross.

Camden, while not actually in Pennsylvania -- where Matthews has been meeting the kind of local Democrats one does to test the waters around a Senate bid -- is a standard stop for Pennsylvania pols, an essential fundraising stop right across the river from Philadelphia, and Norcross is the region's top political dog.

Wow. He's really serious about this. Amazing. I've wanted to take down Schwartz in a General for so long but seeing him beat her (and then seeing us beat him in the General) would be just as rewarding in many ways.

It's still very, very unlikely that he beats Schwartz. I'm hoping for a nasty fight though!

For those that never knew - Matthews grew up very close to where I live. He actually ran for Congress in what is now in PA 13. He challenged an incumbent Democratic Congressman and got demolished in the primary.
