Ike falls ill and decides not to run in 1952. Earl Warren runs again , but this time wins the GOP nomination. Adlai Stevenson still wins the DNC nomination.

The south does not go for the liberal Warren, however, after 20 uninterrupted years of Democratic administrations, the voters opt for change, and Warren would have been a credible nominee.

Much closer than with Eisenhower, but still a comfortable win for Warren.
