Another fun Bilbo quote (emphasis mine):

I can hardly believe that someone that redneck was actually elected to the Senate.

That wasn't the redneck view for that early era, really, it wasn't.

Read the entire Wikipedia article. The man hid in a barn to avoid a subpoena, served jail time for contempt of court during one campaign, and gave interviews while taking a bath. He referred to himself in third person, to boot. Quite a colorful character.

Any Southerner, really.  You, especially, since two very great Senators came from your state.

LOL have to pull out my Hillary laugh on this one.

How does being bi racial make me like anything about a southern segregationist politician?

Just my likeness stands against everything a segregationist politician fought for.

I think we're on different wave lengths.  I'm saying every Southerner should know these politicians, and how two great Senators came from Georgia, not that you agree with them.

Richard Russell, because I think Huey Long cared less about segregation versus the economy.

Long died long before the civil rights era...

True, wish I could go back in time and stop that bullet hitting him.

He was hit several times by his poorly trained bodyguards, not by Dr. Carl Austin Weiss.

I would have to say Bilbo cause the guy was certifiliby insane. He is also mentioned in the book "Wrong on Race: The Buried Past of the Democratic Party". I beleived he claimed that extention of a wartime power FDR used to enforce non-discrimination in defense contractors should be opposed caused it was a secret attempt by Earl Broder and his commies to destroy the country. Anybody that crazy needs watch even by people 60 yrs after his death.

Then we need to go back in time and get him better guards.

Fulbright was a staunch opponent of the House Un-American Activities Committee and the Vietnam War.

Easily J. William Fulbright. He was an awesome politician, with the exception of his support of segregation of course.

Can't say I have much use for any of them, given my propensity to admire politicans with pro-civil rights records.

And his lack of support for Israel.
