What's the blue precinct by the river? (Yeah, I notice the precincts around it aren't blowouts either).

I have no idea what happened there, but here are the results:

Precinct 06-09
John McCain: 672       50.83%
Barack Obama: 628    47.50%
Cynthia McKinney: 5     0.38%
Write-Ins: 5                  0.38%
Bob Barr: 4                   0.30%
Ralph Nader: 4             0.30%
Alan Keyes: 3               0.23%
Chuck Baldwin: 1          0.08%

I am working on a Maricopa County map that is most of the way done and will be posted within the next couple of days. However, I must say that it is single-handedly the most frustrating map I have ever attempted. The file they supplied is the longest >.txt< file ever made (several hundred thousand lines long); it is so large that it crashes my internet every time I open it. Angry

I hate Maricopa's format, but I'd love a map.  You don't happen to know of a way to figure out which precincts are in the city of Phoenix?  The county bounced me off to the local political parties.

You can go to the city of Phoenix election site, and pull down the precincts for the 2007 municipal election, which although it will have consolidated precincts, the names of the three or four precincts that were combined will be listed. All you will need to do for the 131 consolidated precincts, is write down three or four names for each of them, and then go to the general election results, and tag the Phoenix precincts on an excel spreadsheet, use the sort function to put them all in one place on the list, and you are then good to go. It should take you more than about 4 hours or so. Tongue

All yours, Alcon.

Great job.  Do you happen to know the name of the Obama precinct in the south?  I'm looking at a map and it doesn't look like there's much "there" there

The one Obama precinct in the south of the county is number 376: Hickiwan. There were only 29 votes for president in the precinct of which Obama received 17 and McCain 12.

Could someone please do Milwaukee County, WI?

Still waiting for the Allegheny County map....

Both of those counties have a ridiculous number of precincts. Maricopa took me the better part of a week, and that had 1142 precincts. Just looking at Allegheny is terrifying. I could easily do a town map for each of those counties (Milwaukee for sure), but a precinct map would be difficult, though I suppose not impossible.

Here is a Milwaukee County Town Map. If I can find a current precinct shapefile, I will do the map.

Thank you for the tip, Alcon. Smiley

Thank you! And just as a thought my hometown, or village, Greendale, went for McCain. And for those that are curious my hometown is the smaller piece on the right side above the big town on the bottom left.

For the record, Greendale Village voted:

John McCain: 4768 (53.36%)
Barack Obama: 4063 (45.47%)
Other (Mostly Nader): 104 (1.16%)

I wouldn't mind by town like you did for Milwaukee.

The Wayne County Clerk's website has not been working for the past few days, and Michigan doesn't have town or precinct results on the SoS's website, so for the moment, I am unable to make one.

I could sure use a San Francisco map...

I will see what I can find. I know where to get the results, but a shapefile will be more difficult to acquire. I have found one. Smiley

Nice map. A prop 8 map of SF would be even more interesting.....

My last map of the day: Proposition 8 in SF County, CA. There are some very interesting differences between the Presidential results and this one.

The darker grey county at the bottom left is a tie.

Oooh - could someone do a Pelosi/Sheehan map?

Eh, the map wouldn't be that interesting...Pelosi won every precinct handily, never once dropping below 50% in the three person race, routinely ranging from 65%-75%. Sheehan managed the receive 34.92% in one precinct (holding Pelosi to a low of 53.97%) just to the south of Portrero Hill (The big 60% No precinct that barely touches the water). That was the only time she broke 30%.

Realistic,

Where are the precinct results and the shapefile?  I can use my 1% margin coding preconfiguration file to do a Sheehan % map, which should be much more interesting maybe.

For the precinct results: http://www.sfgov.org/site/uploadedfiles/elections/ElectionsArchives/2008/november/SOV_081104_temp.xls

For the shapefile: http://gispubweb.sfgov.org/website/sfshare/catalog/elect_precincts.zip

I found an interesting map online from the 2004 election. It is a statewide precinct map of California. It was in a pdf....so I had to copy it.

Note: This is not a map of the 2004 election results per se, but rather an amalgamation of several different races, from the presidential election to several voter propositions that were used to determine a liberal/conservative score.

That's a really cool map.  Is there a link to a methodology statement?

Here's 2004 by precinct for CA:

FairData2000

To get individual precinct results, click the Info button, click on the Precinct, and then click on the precinct number on the window that comes up.

You can read the whole pdf here.

There is also some stuff on San Francisco in there.

Shata County's so hard for me to read without the lakes and rivers in there...looks to me like Obama did well in downtown Redding, but lost it across the bridge in poor-sprawlland.  Also seems to have taken a beating in the stretch between downtown and Anderson.

Other than that, looks like Obama won the precinct that contains either the village of Shasta (how many of those are there?) or Shasta Lake City...and then some touristy/hippie mountain stuff in the northwest.  Is that about right?

Kind of odd how he did so well in downtown Redding and took a beating in Subdivision Central.  Maybe I mis-read the map horribly.

I think the most remarkable part of Mono County is how the transplant/service vote has totally transformed Lee Vining and especially Mammoth Lakes, while totally ignoring Bridgeport -- which I thought was becoming a hip backpacking area.  I think there's also military there?

I made a version of the Dem primary with the area's hydrography.

You can't get precinct data on most of the large county web sites, but it probably will require some massaging.
