And Cynthia McKinney was a Black Congresswoman who ran for President recently.

If Brandon was responding to my post, that's not a fair response.

If I can list Braun & Kucinich he can list Brownback.  I was only listing Democratic candidates.

Has there been a better Catholic challenger than Brownback in the history of the GOP? Honest question, I can't think of one.

Recent GOP Presidential Candidates who were Catholic:

2008: Rudy Giuliani, Sam Brownback, Tommy Thompson
2000: Pat Buchanan (!), Alan Keyes, Robert Smith
1996: Pat Buchanan, Alan Keyes (note: last major non-Christian candidate: Arlen Specter, Jewish)
1992: Pat Buchanan
1988: Alexander Haig, ,  possibly Ben Fernandez (I don't know, but he was the first Republican Hispanic candidate, running in 1980, 1984, and 1988, only getting a very small % of the vote).

Also note that Mitt Romney and Orrin Hatch were the recent (post-1980) serious Mormon candidates.

Note that in 2008, there were more Catholic GOP candidates than any denomination except Baptist (John McCain, Duncan Hunter, Mike Huckabee, and Ron Paul are all Baptists - the first three Southern Baptists). In 2000, there were more Catholics than any single Protestant denomination.

Thanks!

Maybe I'll do a breakdown of governors (1 by 1 in Wikipedia, haha) later.

I don't know who Robert Smith is, but it seems that the most realistic Catholic GOP presidential candidates have been:
1) Rudy Giuliani
2) Tommy Thompson
3) Sam Brownback
and then
4) Pat Buchanan

I don't know what Rudy would be the equivalent of, maybe Bill Richardson, haha?

Also, it's pretty easy to know why Phil is so pissed off about JFK.- He was a democrat. Duh.

Roll Eyes

Which explains my support of a number of Democrats in the past. What a clown.

I'm apparently such a hack yet this is something I pretty vocally oppose.
