Do non-Americans fit into these generation labels?

I'd say No, unless they move to the U.S.

Using that definition, as many as six.  I think we'll get at least one more.  We could easily someone in his/her mid 60's in 2020.

BTW:  There were only 7 members of "The Greatest Generation," born 1901-25.  Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, GHW Bush.  Eisenhower was born in 1890.

Interestingly, both my father, paternal uncle, and paternal grandmother were part of the "Greatest Generation."

"Only" Seven?
Also, all of those except Carter are WWII veterans.

What's interesting is that we still haven't had a Silent Generation (1929-45) President (McCain would have been the first), and seeing as this group's youngest members are currently 65, we might never get one.

Some think Gringrich and Paul have a chance.

I'd say No, unless they move to the U.S.

What if his/her mother was an American citizen?

Let me clarify that. If someone is an American citizen, then he/she fits into these generation labels. If someone is not an American citizen, then they do not fit into these generation labels unless they move to the U.S.

So is it possible then that our current president fits no specific label?

No, because he is an American citizen (from birth, for that matter).

I disagree, they fit a lot of Western countries (having all been shaped by the wars and the subsequent baby boom, for instance).

Carter (born October 1924) was a member of the Silent Generation.  The G.I./Greatest Generation ended December 7, 1923 (those born later than that were still children when Pearl Harbour happened).

Semantics--by my numbers the Silent Generation starter October 1929 with the great stock market collapse

What about Hillary Clinton, Jeb Bush and god only knows maybe Scott Brown, of course you have to look at how current conditions pan out, but I say three to four more.

Three or four is my guess. I doubt that we will have five baby boomer presidents. If Obama is defeated in 2012, we will probably have another Boomer as president, and if he wins, chances of another Boomer becoming president drops. If a Democrat is elected in 2016, then it may be a Boomer, since most of the current crop of Democratic candidates that wish to succeed Obama (Cuomo, Warner, some others) are Boomers. The GOP, however, have a whole stable of candidates emerging that could run in 2016 or 2020 that are not Boomers, with Jindal and Rubio being the most prominent.

Bush Sr. was born in 1924 too, so does he count?

I would note that many of the fighters in WWII could have been born as late 1927.  Both my father and uncle fought in WWII (my uncle landing on Iwo Jima), and were born after 1923.
