Stevenson siphons off enough conservative Democrats to put California, Illinois, and Ohio into Dewey's column.  In particular, the fact Bricker is on Stevenson's ticket, draws votes away from Truman in Ohio, delivering the state to Dewey.  As well, with Warren as Dewey's VP candidate, and Stevenson a factor, California goes for Dewey.

Thomas E. Dewey becomes the thirty fourth President of the United States.

Dewey/Warren                       267
Truman/Barkley                      203
Stevenson/Bricker                    61

Massive Dewey victory, 344-116-71, as Stevenson hurts Truman in the South especially hard.

Governor Stevenson is able to run a much stronger campaign than Thurmond, and he isn't seen as running purely on the race issue, allowing him to vastly outperform Strom, and cost Truman the election, by a margin of 274-154-103:
