Governor Nelson Rockefeller of New York sought the Republican Presidential nomination in 1968 and former Governer George Wallace of Alabama sought the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1968.

If these were the Presidential nominees in 1968, would Rockefeller have become the first and only Republican to win DC?

Thoughts?

No; but Wallace would have been kept under 60%.

I wouldn't be surprised if Governor Rockefeller faced off against Governor Wallace in 1968 that there would be a low voter turn out in the District of Columbia. Despite this factor being considered, I believe that Governor Rockefeller would be able to pull off a victory over Governor Wallace. Governor Rockefeller's victory in DC would be thanks to him winning a large abundance of support from the African-American community, turned off by Governor Wallace's pro-segregationist views.

I'm quite confused. Are you suggesting that you really believe that renowned segregationist Governor of Alabama, George Corley Wallace Jr. would somehow be able to win the District of Columbia in 1968 over a candidate, in this case, the liberal Governor of New York Nelson A. Rockefeller? As Pauline Hanson would say, "please explain".
