Bush: 327
Gore: 211

That was pretty much the map the Bush people and many media pundits had give or take a few states.

To think how much that map strayed from reality is giving me hope that I can imagine 3am next week seeing McCain squeak by Virginia, and Colorado and hold Florida, Ohio and Missouri thus giving him an electoral vote win while losing the popular vote.

This plus I would argue Obama is in an even better position than Bush was in 2000. So even if the race tightens and current tossups like NC,MO and IN go to Mccain, FL and OH go to Mccain by a small margin; there still remains the problem of VA and CO. Add to this the huge leads Obama has in the polls in PA and the other blue states and you see Mccain's quandary. Also NV could very well be in the same category as VA and CO as I really do not trust its polling.
