My understanding was that the poll prompted those three names specifically, which of course skews the numbers.

Out of those three, I'd go with Romney or Obama if he has a good first term.

I'd put my money on Romney.  The writing's on the wall.

Btw, the poll is from Newsweek.

I guess it's time to add a "2012 presidential election primary polls" sub-board.  Wink

Time for the Republican 2012 campaigning to begin, I guess.

I find it hard to believe either Huckabee or Palin could win by running against each other. First off, Huckabee would sweep the South and Palin the Mountain West. That leaves whoever the establishment candidate is (Romney, lol) to get all of California, Illinois, New York, Florida's, etc.. delegates.

I mean, it's a fair assumption that Huckabee & Palin's appeal does not extend to delegate-rich states like California or New York.

Huckabee's a nice guy, but doesn't pass the Commander-in-Chief test, IMO.

I agree with you re: Huckabee and Palin, as I don't see either of them entering the race in 2012.  But, just out of curiousity, why do you write "Romney, lol"?  I was no big Romney supporter (I've been for McCain since the jump), but I think, with a few adjustments, he would be a formidable candidate and an effective President.  Do you think he would be a weak candidate?  Because of his perceived flip-flops?

Again, not arguing.  Just curious.

He is better than a Fiscal Conservative like Romney.

Plus, he has a shred of integrity.  Mitt Romney is nothing but a slimeball who deserves to be exiled, not nominated for President.

I don't know.  Initially, I thought Romney was a little too amiable, a little too polished.  I remember someone on television describing Romney as "the kid John McCain picked on in grammer school".  But do you remember the last debate before the Florida primary, when there was a dust-up over whether Romney called for a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq?  Romney was visibly angry and came off the best he ever did throughout the whole campaign, IMO.  He turned around in his chair and looked at McCain saying "How are you going to tell me what I said?" or something like that.  I remember thinking how good Romney looked and how bad McCain looked (and I was a McCain supporter).  I think that if Romney can show that abrasiveness every once in a while, it'll let people know that he has a backbone and conviction, and maybe pass that CIC test.  I never saw anything close to that from Huckabee, but he could prove me wrong.

Plus, he has a shred of integrity.  Mitt Romney is nothing but a slimeball who deserves to be exiled, not nominated for President.

Just curious.  Why do you say that Romney lacks integrity?  Because of his pro-choice to pro-life conversion?

Over the course of his career, Romney has shown that he will say anything, change any view, to get elected.

For the same reason I cannot respect Al Gore, I cannot respect Mitt Romney, either.

The only perceived flip-flops I know of is his views on abortion and embryonic stem-cell research.  But he does have a somewhat compelling argument, depending on whether you buy it or not.  I would like to know, I mean, I could never support a dishonest man, but these are the only inconsistencies I know of.

Don't feed the trolls. BRTD thinks McCain is a murder and a war criminal while Bill Ayers is a freedom fighter and upstanding citizen. There's a lot you need to learn about our radical young leftists on this site before asking them rational questions.

I really like Palin and would support her in certain primary scenarios. That being said, she's not one of my ideal top choices.

Romney's momentum appears to be unstoppable.  No way can Huckabee make up that 9 point deficit in just three years.

Then again, perhaps if Huckabee were to increase his ad spending in Iowa from $0 to some non-zero number, he could make a strong enough showing there to at least be competitive with Romney by Super Tuesday.  The other question I have is, why hasn't Palin gone negative against Romney yet?  She hasn't even mentioned his name for as long as I can remember.  She's down by double digits, so she's got nothing to lose.  Oh well, maybe she should just start work on debate prep, as the first 2012 primary debate is coming up in just about two and a half years.

I think Palin has 200-300 times more of a presidential prospect future than any of these other mentioned jokesters.  Huckabee has tried and I think he's a smart enough guy to realize that running again will not help him - his previous race pushed his likability and career about as high as they can go and created the public realization that Huck ain't right to be Commander & Chief.  I haven't made up my mind on the guy yet, but he knows that he wouldn't have a chance now that he's already had a shot once.

Romney is a maybe.

I would be a couple hundred on Palin running and securing the nomination, if you gave me good odds.  She has a tarnished image now, but the start of a new campaign wipes most of that previous slate clean and there's few of her problems that 4 years of practice can't cure.
