Bush did it when he picked Cheney, and likewise when Obama picked Biden. My question is, do you think picking an elder statesman-type for VP is a trend that will continue among future Presidential nominees into the foreseeable future? People picked not for what they can add from an electoral perspective, but how they can help govern. With another advantage being that considering age, probably wouldn't run for President themselves after 8 years, so the President doesn't have to worry about the VP undermining his agenda.
