I think the left is just losing sight of this whole thing; it's getting out of control and they're starting to look really extreme. This is looking like a witch hunt. Now if I were someone with half a brain or more in the Democrat party, I would be thinking something like the following: it's not over. Still 1.5 months to go. We should start cutting our losses over this.
Kerry getting on issues and having it discovered that he'll raise taxes to pay for everything he wants (or admit it was just primary BS and he doesn't intend to deliver any of it) and/or drive the deficit up more than what it is now (the more he raises taxes the less severely the deficit will grow) might not be as damaging as continuing down this path.
