What if the national media - or the Gore Campaign - had made the general public aware of the Florida law mandating a machine recount in races closer than one half of one percent before FOX News called the election for Bush in the wee hours of Nov. 8, 2000?

That was then, but this is now. There's still time to research the battleground states and determine what the laws say about close races and possible recounts. That way, neither candidate will be in a position to declare victory and gain the upper hand in the P.R. battle the way Bush did in 2000 after his cousin at FOX called Florida for him.

Granted, the election may not be that close this time, but an ounce of prevention, as they say, is worth a pound of cure. See:
