Seriously, is he on the McCain payroll?  I wouldn't go around pissing off WPA, it's a fairly soft swing electorate in a (remotely) swing state.  (Ohio-ish demos.)

Murtha is basically a dumbass. Aside from opposing the war early on, I have very little respect for him.

He supported Clinton anyway, proving that he's a faker on that issue as well.

Unfortunately, he's right about the area; I did live there for about 30 years.

Let's just say that this isn't the type of area for most of our forum progressives.

He doesnt have to worry about what he says...

Besides the fact that he is not on a national stage like Obama/McCain, the guy has been in Congress since 1974.  He has 0 chance of being beaten so he can say whatever the hell he wants...

Zero chance of losing this time, sure. That's not always the case.

This is the kind of representation gerrymandering gives you.

Haha.  Include Gerlach (PA-06) in that mix too.  *sighs*

Maybe Roggio can benefit from the huge Democratic registration advantage in the district...already cast my vote for him.

Yeah... Frank Mascara was completely cheated out of our seat. I only voted for Murtha because he's a Democrat and the Republican alternatives are no better.

At least I don't have to live there anymore, because, as I said before... He is basically right.

Murtha was telling the facts of that part of PA no need to deny the facts.

He must know something others don't about PA.

Most of the rest of us Forum Pennsylvanians agree with him on this.

Murtha would have a seat even without gerrymandering. Though maybe he'd be a bit more, ahem, diplomatic with his words.

No doubt it's factually correct, but it seems like the sort of thing that could tick off open-minded but traditional voters.

Traditional voters aren't open minded about deciding who to vote for at all. That's the whole point; identity trumping a consumer choice.

Unless thou bist using "traditional" as a euphemism for something else.

I'm not really happy about possibly being a resident of the most racist state in the union, but I have to admit that it is a possibility.

Just for the record, I live by Broad and Erie in North Philadelphia, so I've made my choice.

Frankly, I don't understand what you mean by traditional.  I mean the plain meaning of the word -- people who embrace tradition.  They usually vote red, but would be willing to listen to a blue candidate.  Murtha's comments run the risk of pushing them back to their default position -- "if that's how them liberals see us..."

Thee wrote "traditional voters". There's a, fairly, strict-ish definition of those, I thought.

Everyone embraces a tradition of one sort or another.

I don't think that anyone in that part of the world would view Murtha as being representative of "them liberals", whoever "them liberals" might happen to be.
