Obamacans - Republicans supporting Obama
Pumas - Democratic women choosing McCain out of spite for Hillary not being nominated.

Obamacans: McCain probably scared most of the remaining PUMAs into the Obama camp with his flippant remarks about women's health in the final debate.

In my experience, PUMAs are completely unreasonable and definitely did not give two hoots about McCain's comments about women's health in the final debate. I've had more than one woman tell me that they don't care how bad McCain is, they just want Obama to lose so that Hillary can run again '12.

That being said their numbers have always been dramatically overstated, so I'm going with Obamacans.

The only PUMAs left are a) people who voted Republican in every previous election and b) women J.J. knows.

By contrast, the Obamacans are the same Republicans who voted for John Kerry in 2004.  This whole discussion is a wash.

Ken Adelman and Michael Smerconish are new conservatives to endorse Obama, I believe, as is Colin Powell. On the other hand, you have weak sisters like Lincoln Chafee and Christopher Buckley about whom too much has been made, but the difference was that in 2004 they voted against Bush by writing in George H.W. Bush, while this year they are making an affirmative case for Obama.

I voted Obamacans, mostly because of the gender qualifier, and because most Clinton/McCain voters aren't really PUMAs.

PUMAs, unless PUMA just means Clinton->McCain, are a tiny part of the electorate.

Obamacans are Republicans who know that if Obama wins, intelligent conservatism will live to fight another day.  McCain can't be allowed to continue the GOP along the crash course that Bush started.

There will be quite a few of them.

McCain does not have a single issue that appeals to the Pumas.  And the pro-life beauty queen he picked as running-mate is repulsive to them.

true, but there are also the Hillaryis44 types, who hate Obama passionately and will vote for McCain so that Hillary can come back an defeat him in 2012. However, I'd estimate there are at most 100,000 such women in the entire country, and most of them live in Mass, NY, Jersey, and California, states where their votes won't matter in the least.
