Why does this vote have such an absurd name?
"To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide earnings assistance and tax relief to members of the uniformed services, volunteer firefighters, and Peace Corps volunteers, and for other purposes".

rofl

I'm glad that my current representative and former representative both voted against this trash. Lloyd Doggett continues to be an amazing FF. And Mike McCaul apparently doesn't want to lose re-election. Sad

Because "To give a massive handout to big corporations" doesn't sound so good.

My rep Defazio (D-OR 4) voted against.

He's always been an economic populist with a finger on the pulse of progressive Dems, as well as more conservative Republican leaning timber mill-workers.

If this doesn’t pass, I’m going to change my avatar to Green for the week in salute to how self-serving and destructive my own party can be.

70% of D's voted yes, why are you mad at them?  Only 20% of Repubs voted yes.

Actually, 60% of Ds and 32% of Rs, but yes, your point stands.

I agree with Torie though that some form of this will happen by the end of the week. Luckily it might not be as bad, maybe they can cut it a couple hundred billion down at least.

How is this Pelosi's fault when the majority of Republicans voted against it?

I see Bush has control over the members on his side of the isle. Roll Eyes

Because 94 Democrats voted against.  If Pelosi was truly in control, she could've found 13 Democrats to change their votes before it officially failed.

I note a lot of retiring Republicans in favor and a lot of less-than-safe Democrats opposed.

I wonder why. Cheesy

I have a feeling this will happen. Which is why I oppose the bailout. It's better to let the banks take care of themselves and for governments to reduce their own debt and curb spending.

It's not my neighbour's responsibility to clean my house.

Democratic house members don't want to hang for an unpopular proposal that W. and Paulsen brought to the table (modified by a bi-partisan Senate), regardless of how Pelosi feels.

Both parties have spun this as a "bailout" and failed to explain to the American people why it is so urgent to pass a flawed piece of legislation that many people see as not helping them with their own economic troubles.

As viz. the relation between governments and banks...

It is your responsibility to clean up your pet's stall. Tongue Though not necessarily to bail it out of trouble.

For once, the House does something somewhat correct (and bipartisan).

Silly McCain and his claim that he wouldn't debate until there was a bailout deal.

State by state...

ME: 1-1. Allen in favor. I guess he's given up on the Senate race. Michaud against, as a good Populist.
NH: 0-2. Yeah, both against.
VT: 0-1.
MA: 7-3. Tierney, Lynch, Delahunt opposed. Beats me if there's a pattern to that.
RI: 2-0. What, no Langevin?
CT: 4-1. Courtney against, Shays in favor. Makes a certain amount of sense, that.

J.J. wouldn't debate until their was a bailout deal?

He kept spinning about how once this passed despite how toxic it was in polls the public would hail McCain as a savior and completely forgive him for that idiotic campaign suspension stunt.

If it would have passed he would have no repercussions for suspending his campaign

Except his being linked to a very unpopular plan.

Because 94 Democrats voted against.  If Pelosi was truly in control, she could've found 13 Democrats to change their votes before it officially failed.

And she stupidly made a partisan speech on the House floor, blaming Bush and the Republicans for the bill.  That turned more Republicans off from voting for the bill.  Democrats are nowhere near blameless in this mess.
