Which do you think is more plausible.

A.) Al Gore over-performed in NY in 2000.
B.) There was a 9/11 bump
C.) None of the above.
D.) Combination of A and B

Look at the changes in the margins in Kings, Nassau and Rockland Co.

Reps want to try to ignore the reality.

It wasn't Gore who over-performed in 2000, but Bush in 2004.

There was some marginal Gore overperformance in 2000 over gun control, which was and remains wildly popular in the NYC suburbs. There might have been a slight Jewish effect too due to Lieberman. But most of the change can be attributed to Sept 11.

The two things cannot be told apart. Single Issue "Security" voters = gulliblest subset in the whole lot. Tongue

B, if you look at the way NY was trending during the 90's, especially the NYC suburbs, Gore's 2000 performance looks more like just the continuation of the trend rather than any over performance

Gore was a better candidate than Kerry.
