Much relief today.  Overall, my Scottrade account is back up to about 90% of what it was a week ago today.  Wild ride.  I wouldn't mind some more of it.  Excellent opportunities.  I want to try to sell that Canadian company I mentioned last week if it goes above what I paid for it.

"Come ye cool cool conservative men
The likes of which may never be seen again
We have land, cash in hand
Self-command, future planned
Fortune flies, society survives
In neatly ordered lives with well-endowered wives

We sing hosanna, hosanna
To our breeding and our banner
We are cool"

"Cool Cool Considerate Men," 1776 (1969)

Remember this one?

Listen as your day unfolds
Challenge what the future holds
Try and keep your head up to the sky
Lovers, they may cause you tears
Go ahead release your fears
Stand up and be counted
Don't be ashamed to cry

You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold, you gotta be wiser
You gotta be hard, you gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

Herald what your mother said
Reading the books your father read
Try to solve the puzzles in your own sweet time
Some may have more cash than you
Others take a different view
My oh my, heh, hey

You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold, you gotta be wiser
You gotta be hard, you gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

Don't ask no questions, it goes on without you
Leaving you behind if you can't stand the pace
The world keeps on spinning
You can't stop it, if you try to
This time it's danger staring you in the face

Remember
Listen as your day unfolds
Challenge what the future holds
Try and keep your head up to the sky
Lovers, they may cause you tears
Go ahead release your fears
My oh my heh, hey, hey

You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold, you gotta be wiser
You gotta be hard, you gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

Wild week. Goodness. I've made most of my money back from this week. Citigroup is doing well since picking some up at $15.

You might see interest rates increase, long term.

I think the day of crisis will be Friday or Monday.

And Asia is reflective.

How many of you can actually remember the last economic shock, other than 9/11?  Seriously

Not all of us are so young....

Asia is reflective, although it looks like markets fell again today.

If this stabilizes by Monday, it's over.  It won't affect the election.

At the small cost of a good fraction of a trillion dollars. Joe sixpack will go back to not caring because the media will tell him everything is OK.

No, Joe Sixpack will look at his bank balance, call his insurance agent and see nothing has changed.  He'll smile slightly and say, "The big guys took a bullet, big deal."  Then he'll vote for McCain.

The economy as an issue is not going away. No matter how much the GOP wishes it happens.

I think this aspect will.  It will be about how the candidates say they'll hadle it.  Obama's plan was?

But of course since we bailed out all these corporations the value of the dollar will fall and inflation will rise hitting Joe sixpack much harder than the "big guys", who got away with multi-million dollar payouts. Of course the problem is Joe sixpack does not understand this and will probably vote for Mccain, even though his policy of deregulation caused the problem in the first place.
