Giffords goes for 'Tough' image on border securityBy Evan Brown
Category: HouseTags: Gabrielle Giffords, AZ-8, Clarence Dupnik

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Tucson) enlisted the help of Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik to make the case for her border security credentials in her new campaign ad, "Tough," which debuted Monday in the 8th Congressional District.

The ad seeks to portray Giffords as a strong advocate for beefed-up border patrols and anti-drug trafficking efforts.

"Gabrielle Giffords gets it," says Dupnik in the ad. "She's tough, she's effective, and she works across party lines for smart border enforcement."

Giffords' legislative efforts to add agents to the Arizona-Mexico border and crack down on cross-border tunnels are highlighted in the ad.

TRANSCRIPT:

Sheriff Clarence Dupnik: Effective border protection can't happen in Washington - it has to happen right here, and Gabrielle Giffords gets it.

Helping secure 3,000 more border agents, reimbursing law enforcement for the price we pay, and giving us the tools we need to fight drug trafficking.

She's tough, she's effective, and she works across party lines for smart border enforcement, holding Washington accountable for those of us on the border.

Rep. Giffords: I'm Gabrielle Giffords, and I approve this message.

Smart move on her part. This is the district where Graf got the Republican nomination last time.

It's nice to see someone in the party who uses common sense instead of just pandering to Mexicans.

She's just trying to show that she wants to make sure the law can be enforced. I'm not threatened by this nor do I know the big deal of this.

Uh, Weasel,

Gabby is smarter than Rep Cannon, who learned the hard way.

Supporters of "Comprehensive" Immigration Reform proposals (amnesty+guest workers+no sanctions for employers of illegal aliens) are consistently beaten at the polls by supporters of border security+no amnesty+sanctions for employers).

Since the House members are elected every two years, even if the Senate produces another "Comprehensive" amnesty bill, it will die in the House.
