This gender pay equity thing just scares the hell out of me. It would be litigation city, as job wages cease to be dictated by the market.

One can say the same thing about the abolition of slavery.

Morality trumps economic sense.

Well...

I thought Casey had the best line of the night.  And quite apt.  "95% percent voting with Bush?  That's not a maverick...that's a sidekick."  I would make it my sig, if I weren't so passionate about the offensive and telling nature of the Babs quote.

Second best line of the night came from Senator Clinton when she said it was appropriate that John McCain and The Decider would be in the TWIN cities next week.  Smart.

Strickland was very good, but I expected better from a guy trained at Asbury Theological Seminary.

I liked the content of Schweitzer's speech and it's clear, the crowd did, too.  But the bolo and all the gesturing...plus that cherubic face...just reminded me of "Honest Fred's Used Car" commercials.  Or, if he had a drawl, a televangelist.

Patrick bored me, though he delivered it decently.

Warner was so-so, I thought.  He got better as it went on.

Hillary's speech was stellar.  But I purposely watched the MSNBC reaction while taping the Fox News reaction.  I didn't expect fair and balanced from either, but good God.  Olbermann came in his pants.  And all four Fox talking heads sounded as though they had just heard one of the most tepid, half-hearted speeches ever.

I sooooo miss David Brinkley on NBC, Peter Jennings on ABC and Cronkite on CBS.  As a liberal who is also a journalist, I am embarassed and infuriated by both Olbermann and Fox.'Disgusting.

Chelsea looked awesome.

Dennis Kucinich rocked my world! Most entertaining speech of the day, by far.

Hillary was amazing... easily the best speech of the convention so far (except maybe Ted).

Based on my small sample size of instant reactions, this seems to have increased Obama's stock significantly dramatically amongst hardcore Hillary supporters.

I like the Western Democratic populist, pro-gun rights, environmental, and progressive style.

Schweitzer's stock just went up dramatically in my book.

What's your position on gun rights, if I may ask?

One can say the same thing about the abolition of slavery.

Morality trumps economic sense.

To be fair to abolitionists, slavery was on the outs as an effective economic strategy as well. Caring for slaves enough to keep them effective workers had become expensive enough that hired labor was cheaper (and less likely to revolt).

In the short term, equal pay for equal work would cause trouble as precedents for what constituted bias would need to be established. And, since it would merely prohibit discrimination in wages based on either sex or gender, it could be applied in "reverse" as well. But eventually objections in situations where wage differences were clearly performance-based instead of gender-based would be easily dismissed by the courts and then eventually not even filed. In the long-term I doubt it would increase litigation at all. That's a "market adjustment" in and of itself, I suppose, the judicial system remoulding itself around new laws.

I believe that individuals should have the right to bear arms without government restriction so long as they have a clean criminal record with a reasonable waiting period for handguns and semi-automatic weapons. Individuals with mental health records should face a longer waiting period to determine that they are not a danger to society.

Individuals should be allowed to possess concealed weapons so long as they meet rigorous background checks and mandatory firearms safety classes.

Most of the gun owners I know, including several of my close co-workers are hunters that are totally responsible, most of whom vote Democrat or Green (for those partisans out there) and are simply sportsmen who would love to bag an Elk to bring home to friends and family.

Personally, I think that mandatory trigger locks are a good idea as a responsible parent, but I am not sure that the state should mandate such behavior.

This speech is so frickin' depressing.

I threw up when she said three things:

1. Universal Health Care
2. Traveling Pants-Suit
3. "Green-collar" jobs

Not everybody can be rich like you.

Her support of universal health care is why I support her. McVain and Obama wont do stuff like that.

Obama, the whimp, will let the capitalists run all over him! Hillary is tougher then him, and would have done everything she can to institute universal health care. She was beaten up in 1994, but she is so tough today that she would know how to fight those capitalists right back!

Remember, she has NO ethical standards. She will stop at absolutely nothing to get what she needs done.

What makes you think that someone with no ethics will do a better job of helping the common person, rather than just furthering themselves?

Hillary really did a great job tonight; just smashed it out of the park.  Kucinich was pretty amusing, although he sounded a little halting in his delivery; Casey and Patrick were okay, but not great.  I was really impressed with both Warner and Schweitzer, and I found Strickland to be pretty boring.  Certainly my favorite night of the Convention.
