In 2008, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney defeats Arizona Senator John McCain in a close contest to win the Republican Presidential nomination. In a conciliatory gesture to the McCain camp, Romney picks prominent McCain supporter South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham for Vice President, calling Graham a gifted leader and legislator. McCain, although disappointed, gives Romney and Graham his total and unreserved support.
Incredibly, on the Democratic side, Senators Clinton and Obama battle each other to a virtual draw, and veteran Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd comes up the middle and ends up being chosen as the compromise candidate. Dodd surprises Democrats and the nation by picking up and coming youthful Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas for Vice President, calling her an extremly capable individual, ready to face the challenges the nation faces. Both Clinton and Obama publicly endorse the ticket.
