Yes on both counts, unfortunately, but having to settle for Ted Stevens out of the Senate isn't that bad I suppose. Alaska also better change the damn name of the airport.

Yes/No; I don't think Bush would pardon him before the election, and I think he will forget about it afterwards.

Yes (I don't know that the trial will be moved to Alaska)/No (Bush has no earthly reason to care if Stevens is in jail or not; if Stevens is convicted, his career is over, no questions asked).

Torie, an actual attorney, says the trial is unlikely to be move to Alaska, and I'll trust him because he's the only person on the forum (that I know of at least) who has the experience to say such things with authority. I also believe it's unlikely since the evidence against Stevens is not just in Alaska, there's now a new case appearing that he likely accepted kickbacks through a real estate deal on a Florida condo.

I say Yes/No.  If Bush's history on denying pardons holds true, Stevens won't be pardoned.

i doubt this case will be resolved by january 20, 2009.

stevens should be pardoned right now, however.  im no ted stevens fan, but the case is ridiculous.  im sick of the criminalization of politics.

pardon this fellow and let him keep his gas grill.

Not a chance on a pardon even if it's resolved........but let him keep the grill anyway.

As to the first question, it all depends on the venue.  In the District of Columbia being a Republican is considered a crime.

If the trial is heard by an impartial jury (not possible in D.C.) he will probably be found not guilty.

As to the second question, I doubt Bush will pardon him.

The guy took bribes to help an oil company get federal contracts. He just did it in a more subtle way such as through home improvements because it'd be idiotic to make it as blatant as just pokceting cash from them. How the hell is that OK?

Yes/Yes

I'm not sure about the firs tone, but I am about the second. All politicians help out their buddies.

I doubt he'll be convicted before January 20, 2009, but if he is, Bush has no incentive to pardon him.

Yes/No.  I'm not sure Bush'll even be in office by the time he's convicted.  And why does Bush care?  Stevens is a fiscal nightmare for Republicans.
