I don't get it.

It's The Onion, and yet there's nothing satirical about it.  It's all fact.

It's easy to poke fun at this President, but the stuff this guy has had to do...the decisions he has had to make...the events he led our country through....are more than most Presidents ever have on their plate.

Would you say the same thing about Gore, had he been elected in 2000?

And a more competent man would have led us through it better.  A man is not judged by the difficulty of his trials, but how he handles those trials.

Fact is, had John McCain won the GOP Primary and defeated Al Gore...we would have had a vastly better Commander in Chief, a much wise manager of domestic policy and a leader the rest of the world would respect.  Hell, we'd have had that if Gore or Bradley had won.  Or if Alexander or Hatch had somehow managed to win the primaries.  Admittedly, I am pretty sure Forbes, Keyes or Bauer would have been every bit as horrible -- if not worse -- than Beelzebush.  But still, we had LOTS of better choices that the boy king.

And he massively screwed up. Getting into a war over oil is not my idea of a good president.

Oil was not the main course. It was more animated by Wilsonian precepts. Wilsonian ideals in unskilled hands is very dangerous.

True. But I don't think it was a coincidence that he went after a dictatorship with oil.

I really think the "war for oil" mantra is a canard.

Don't get me wrong.  This Iraq war was all about money.  Just not black gold, Texas tea...etc.

This was about fattening the wallets and portfolios of the President, Vice President and all their ardent supporters and donors in the defense industry and the "soldier of fortune" business. Now, if the House of Saud is getting rich because of the war -- (and I don't know if they are or not) -- then add them to the list.  Follow the money is usually pretty sound advice.

But if controlling the oil in Iraq were the goal of this war, well...then we would be controlling it now.  We are not.

I'm not commenting on the video because I don't care to watch. However, I do want to respond to the comment above.

These past seven and a half years have taught me that I have to be as fair as possible when it comes to the opposition. I don't like everything this President has done. I think this second term has been a waste with the exception of Roberts and Alito being appointed to the Supreme Court. However, I do like the guy. Even if I didn't, I've seen what an opposition can do when they absolutely loathe someone. I think there have been fair criticisms but a lot of it is unfair or blown way out of proportion. I have told myself that no matter how I feel about someone I dislike being elected, I must do everything I can to be fair. I don't want to turn into what many Democrats have turned into when it comes to the President. That goes for my criticisms of Al Gore (the guy I dislike the most in politics), Bob Casey, etc.

Fair enough, but what about Bill Clinton?

What about him? Why wouldn't what I said apply to him after I said it applies to people that I dislike the most?
