I remember something my dad once told me. He said he thought the Russians were so paranoid was because of their history. They haven't been conquered, but they've been overrun, a lot.

There's no sane reason for Russia to occupy Georgia. Installing a more favourable (but perhaps not too favourable, actually...) would seem more likely, if it comes to that.

They're also suppressing casualty numbers.

As I said some time ago, this is yet another example of Tsarist/Soviet/Russian paranoia for at least 300 years, if not 700.
