Schweitzer is my second-favorite realistic VP candidate, after Sebelius. But, unlike Sebelius, I doubt he'd want to have anything to do with a Presidential campaign.

I'm not sure if I would classify him as that realistic.

Well, okay. I suppose I'm thinking in a bit of a June mindset still. Realistic against, say, Mike Bloomberg or Cory Booker as VP.

Another point to consider. Losing Brian Schweitzer would be a blow to the MT Democratic Party, as would Tim Kaine's depature be on the VA Democratic Party. If one were to weigh the magnitude of these decisions (the importance of a bluing VA vs. a bluing MT), one should determine that VA is a more important state to Democrats.

If Kaine leaves, the common wisdom is that Bill Bolling will be very difficult to defeat. If he's popular, he could help the GOP pick up the one seat they need to flip the State Senate. Then the GOP would once again control all of the VA state government and they could redistrict Democrats to a near-certain minority party status for the '10s.

Schweitzer is also a more affable and witty speaker. He would likely 'win' the VP debate for Obama and could be a potent wing-man on the stump. He'd also make a great POTUS candidate down the line.

Tim Kaine transplant!

As for his eyes, they came that way.  God's fault, not mine.  Sad

If you'd won the Governorship of Delaware and earned a 60% approval rating there, McCain might've considered you.

I cashed in off of the Kaine buzz (realizing it before anyone else) on Facebook and invested every penny I have in Schweitzer, Bayh, Cantor, and Romney, but mostly Schweitzer.

Governor Schweitzer would be an excellent running mate for Barack Obama. The only bad thing about Schweitzer is that he's been Governor of Montana since January 2005, the same amount of time Obama has been in the United States Senate and has no interest to become a Washington "Insider", or so I have heard. Though saying this, Governor Schweitzer would be a better politician elected to office in 2005 for Barack Obama to select as his running mate. Kaine would be alright but nowhere as good as Schweitzer, if only he was elected into the United States Senate in 2000 then he would be a really good candidate for the Vice Presidency.

The main problem with Schweitzer is that he endorsed McCain in 2000.  While he could certainly spin it as a disillusionment with McCain - who is not the maverick he used to be - it is a definite minus.

Like you said, it's not really a negative. It's all too easy to say, "The John McCain of 2000 and the John McCain of 2008 are two very different people" (whether it's true or not). Had he endorsed Bush in 2004 or something, it would be a lot more difficult.

Ah, yes, yes, yes. Brian Schweitzer! The new rock star and one time potential running mate for Obama.

Brian Schweitzer - He's a one term Governor. Little, if any, foreign policy experience. Governor of a state about the size of Alaska.

This is just a note for the sixteen people in this poll that thought Obama ought to pick this guy. Just be careful when you say something about Palin. I'm all about playing fair, my friends.

In an alternate universe, Mr. Moderate is LOL'ing at Schweitzer's bolo tie and I'm whining to GM3 in public posts about how desperate and afraid the Republicans must be if they're picking on him so much.

Well, yes, the bolo tie is annoying but I wouldn't be claiming that he'd be a disaster of a pick like some Dems are doing with Palin.

And, if anything, some of us would have a reason to laugh. It would at the very least appear that both the top and the bottom of the ticket isn't ready. Atleast McCain supporters can say that the top of our ticket isn't perceived as being inexperienced.

But in all seriousness, I'd say that he would be a strong pick.
