No, it's probably due to your incompetence Harry.

He's right.  Realistically speaking, congressional approval is probably "really" around the low twenties.  Be proud Harry!

No, Harry, it isn't Bush's fault that you and the rest of the Democratic leadership are spineless cowards. You can't blame Bush for everything, you know, especially when you seem so hell-bent on placating him.

No, it's not really Bush's. It's mostly the obstructionist GOP caucus's, with a bit of Democratic spinelessness thrown in for good measure.

This. Then again, I guess Reid would rather whine about Congress's low approval ratings than change them.

Needless to say, we should make him our first target if he dares to run for reelection in 2010. Nothing would make me happier than to see that scapegoating ne'erdowell lose.

I'm just angry at Reid for kicking my party out of power & then behaving the same. We need to demand more choices & less dishonesty from our politicians. We already only have two major parties while many countries have three or four.

Nevermind that the public put him in power to combat Bush's assault on the Constitution. Fortunately, we still have the Supreme Court to stand up for our rights. Sadly, they can't do anything about these abuses until a relevant case comes before them.

I used to be angry with the last GOP Do Nothing Congress but always justified by desire for keeping the majority with the belief that the Democrats wouldn't do much of anything/much better anyway. I've been proven right.

No, Congress's low approval rating is due to the simple fact that both parties are led by total asshats. Harry Reid is one of them.

Harry Reid is both an incompetent and a DINO.

Another thing that gets me about Reid is that he was very nearly kicked out of office. It's all because of President Clinton & our friends in the 105th Congress that Reid is in power now.

I should make it clear that I have nothing but contempt for the man. Someone in that position of power should not work so hard to undermine his own party.

I suppose that I should be happy that he's not helping public opinion of Democrats, but it won't matter. The public will vote for them just the same.

Sadly, the public does not demand accountability from its politicians, & are not easily angered into action. Otherwise, Congress would not have an average of 96% of reelection campaigns being successful. Congress has rarely ever done anything to deserve such a high reelection rate.

Congress has a 96% average election rate due to gerrymandering, not due to public outrage. Abolish gerrymandering and you'd get more competitive elections on the congressional level.

Harry Reid is a either very incompetent or he's a DINO in league with the GOP. Personally, I wish it was the latter because it would be a lot easier to digest/understand.

I agree that gerrymandering is a factor, though it doesn't make a difference in Senatorial elections, only in House elections. Wink

That nitpick of mine aside, Congress has been notoriously ineffectual for as long as anybody can remember. But with the exception of the occasional wave election, very few seats flip & very few incumbents lose, even in the most competitive districts. It would be nice to have a less lazy government, though I guess most voters don't agree. Sad

Senate elections would be even worse if they were 2 districts and not statewide at large.

I sometimes like to think of the Senate as the "representative" house of Congress since it's immune to gerrymandering. I also think of the House of Representatives as the "insane asylum" house of Congress, as that's where all the people who are too crazy to hold a statewide office go to whine about their fringe politics.
