Topline numbers don't mean sh*t till the crosstabs come in. I don't know what the obsession with numbers that conform to peoples' perception of reality is though, where any result that looks like an aberration is immediately written off as worthless.

I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at. Polls unto themselves are meant to provide an accurate depiction of reality as it stands, but unfortunately there's a measure of subjectivity and uncertainty present within polls that are inescapable.

I'd much sooner use a flawed measure of rigorous methodology ahead of crap statements pulled out of asses such as There's no WAY Obama will get within 5 of McCain in GA, this poll is trash or You've got to be ing kidding if McCain makes headway in the Pacific Northwest, crappy uni poll. It all strikes it me as terribly blinkered.
