If Wisconsin is McCain's best shot at picking up a Kerry state, (as some have stated here before) he's screwed

Its not.......I know it was closer than other states Bush lost, but Obama plays better there (I think) than Kerry and Bush probably maxed out for a Republican last year.  Republicans put in a herculean effort and still came up just short.  Hard to see then winning there in 2008.

McCain needs to accept Wisconsin and Minnesota are going to be losses and look elsewhere.

It's not; Michigan, where he's down 6, is his best shot.

Please don't tell me your honestly buying McCain being down anymore than 5% in WI right now

I'd be thinking more in terms of New Hampshire or possibly Pennsylvania, but Michigan and Wisonsin are probably right behind. Beyond that, we're fast getting onto "impossible" territory.

I can count on one finger the number of McCain bumper stickers I have seen in Wisconsin ( I live in metro Milwaukee, but not the city)  I cannot go a day without more than 2 Obama stickers. Signs are also popping up around here.

Midwest likes Midwest... Obama is probably between a 6-9% lead

I agree with him, that is why IN is polling so close. I believe right now NH or PA is McCain best chance at flipping a Kerry state, but I don't see that happening as of right now.

McCain's down nationally by about 6-7 or so right now, so being down by more than 5 in WI is pretty much certain.

I'd cast a wider net (maybe 3-7) but otherwise your main point is correct.

I agree with what appears to be the general consensus here; McCain's best shots are probably New Hampshire and Pennsylvania and I'm not even all that sure about Pennsylvania.  One thing is for certain though, the Upper Midwest is completely out of McCain's reach at this point in the race.  I really don't think McCain can afford to go after Kerry territory outside of NH.  He needs to be playing defense in the West and the Atlantic Coast.
