Opinion of Martin Luther

SPC:
What do you think of Martin Luther?

Kaine for Senate '18:
HP, because of the anti-Semitism.

Alcon:
As much as antisemitism isn't generally my #1 "litmus test" issue (most dead people were dicks), I have to agree with Ben on this.  He had a major hang-up.  I have no big qualm with the Protestant Reformation, and he undeniably made interesting contributions.  But since the vast majority of famous theologians are interesting in some way, I'm forced to evaluate him on his jerkdom.

HP.

12th Doctor:
Personally, I think he was a HP.  The antisemitism.  Egotism.  The fact that he sided with the German Princes over the peasants just because the princes were protecting him....

That being said, I think he made some good contributions, theologically, and many bad ones.  The Catholic Church responded to many of his points in Trent with reforms, but they get no credit, of course.

SPC:
Odd. Even though I personally agree that he was a HP, I would have thought the forum's impression would be different.
