John McCain leads Obama 44 percent to 42 percent in Alaska, with Libertarian nominee Bob Barr taking 3 percent, according to the Global Strategy Group survey, which was conducted for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and obtained by The Fix.

For Senate junkies out there, the poll also showed Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich, the likely Democratic nominee, ahead of GOP Sen. Ted Stevens.

Wow.  This is an internal, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt, but still, down only 2?  He's probably down 4-5 really, but this can only be good news.

Republicans have been leaking internals, too. See the McConnell-Lunsford poll Inks entered on the Senate forum. For some reason the Democrats like to include Presidential toplines while the Republicans do not.

Strangely enough, I did about a five-minute search on Google and found nothing.  The only thing released were the Prez numbers.

Lol this state is really wacky with elections.  I really cannot see Obama winning here. They are kind of socialist libertarians, as in "hands off my guns, and give my d*mn oil collectivation check."  And the Republican Party here IS in worse shape here than any other state.  I still this being about +9 for McCain.

It really bugs me when people say this. Sure the Alaska GOP is in some rough spots currently but most state parties would give anything to have a Governor with 80%+ approval ratings.

Well yeah. The AK GOP is strife ridden to a ridiculous degree, but while one half is totally unpopular, the other half is popular. And they still have what you could call a natural majority.

Actually, it makes logical sense that McCain will perform worse than your normal Presidential Republican in Alaska for one simple reason (that, since it should be mentioned will have little to do the Senate contest)

That has everything to do with the Senate contest, although not in the same way it might affect the Presidential race.

Yes.  I doubt that would affect the Prez contest actually.  Try again.

Subconsciously, perhaps...

For supposed *political* experts, we are sure slow at the gun here.  The answer is ANWR.

I doubt the answer is that simple. Barring Palin, most Republican politicians are being labeled with allegiances to bribery, corruption and graft and McCain is no exception.
