Hubert Humphrey, probably, though I would have also seriously considered Nixon.

Wallace, on the other hand, was too far out there especially with regard to race-relations.

Humphrey, assuming I wasn't pissed that the nomination had been stolen from McCarthy and didn't vote in protest, which is very possible.

Because those two aren't polar opposites or anything.

(Well maybe not polar, but pretty close)

Nixon for sure.

1968 was a watershed election, the Democrats had been in power for 8 years, the Vietnam War was raging, and new leadership for the nation was needed.

Nixon had the ability and the experience to provide new leadership, including what appeared to be a reasonable plan, at the time, to bring the troops home from Vietnam.

Write-In: Eugene McCarthy.. or Fidel Castro. Depending on mood.

Of course In retrospect anything would have been better than the Nixon Regime.

Then: Richard Nixon (R)

Now: Probably Nixon, though I would have considered voting for an obscure Write-In candidate. If I didn't vote for an obscure one such as Mao or Uncle Ho I would have written in Senator Gene McCarthy.

With hindsight: definitely Humphrey

Nixon, but I can see myself giving thought to Humphrey in the latter stages of the campaign.

Humphrey, even though it would have taken a big swing toward Humphrey to give him a majority of EVs (as without that majority Wallace would control the process). I think the behind the scenes finagling vis-a-vis Nixon and Vietnam in the final days of the campaign resulted in missing a historic opportunity. I can't help but think race relations would have been better.

I would abstain though in hindsight knowing what I know about Nixon's sabotaging the peace talks definitely Humphrey.
