Hillary Clinton explaining staying in the race to the Sioux Falls Argus Leader:

Ignoring momentarily that Clinton I had a clear path to the nomination, the second statement is...inopportune.

I almost posted this, then decided I should let someone else do it, see if it got to be a big deal. It may.

It doesn't even justifying her staying in the race. If there was an assassination, would someone else really be able to step in and deny her the nomination if she dropped out now? No.

I think what she's trying to say here is "Go to California in June, and you can either win a primary or be assassinated.  Take your pick."

Is this supposed to be a coherent explanation or am I missing the point?

She's saying that it doesn't make any sense for people to be calling for her to drop out, because past primary battles have gone into June, so it's not really that late.

But of course, the double meaning that some people might take from this is that she's implying that the nomination isn't really decided because you could still have some dramatic event like the RFK assassination.....which is obviously kind of offensive if that's what she meant, since it would be like saying "Well, Obama could still be assassinated, in which case I could win."

You're right. She's wishing that Obama gets assissinated.

All this vitrol directed at Hillary by Obama supporters is getting quite ridiculous and petty.

Not sure if that was directed at me.  (I'm not even an Obama supporter...though I may come off that way sometimes because I enjoy mocking so many Clinton talking points, which I usually find hilarious.)  But I wasn't saying that *I* think that she's wishing that Obama gets assassinated.  I was just explaining that, given the way politics works, many people will interpret this to mean "Well, Obama could still be assassinated, in which case I could win", which would be kind of offensive.

You people are just ing stupid. This finalized my decision to leave this horrible website. If anyone can twist this to mean anything other than the fact that RFK was still running for President in June, you're just stupid, partisan hacks.

All she was talking about was the fact that he was running in June, and as everyone associates his campaign with is that he was assassinated.

The media is corrupt.

^^^^^^^^^

I was listening to my FM classic rock music station which has no news, and between songs the DJ broke in like: "OMG BREAKING NEWS Hillary has just said that she should stay in the race because RFK was assasinated. Wow. Just wow. What a horrible thing to say."

No mention of her actual quote, no mention of "June", just "Hillary should stay in the race because RFK was assasinated" and the implication.

She also cited Bill as not clinching the nomination until June, possibly in the same statement.

One major advantage Hillary has is she's a lying, conniving, brazen, shameless, manipulative, bitch.  We already know that and there is no new revelation in that.  Anything "bad" about Obama is a revelation.

Okay, I feel kind of bad for jumping on this. I'll be honest, when I first heard about it, I was skeptical; how bad could it be? Then I watched the video and was horrified, and a bit more to learn that she'd said basically the exact same lines back in March. So, while I suppose I should be giving the benefit of the doubt, and I now am, this isn't jumping on her. The negative reaction was a honest first impression.

And I think that explains why the media has gone all over this. A lot of people's first view will see it as Clinton suggesting that something untoward will happen to Obama, including probably many of those who put it on air. And I don't think you have to prefer Obama for that to be the case. Certainly the most reasonable of the pro-Clinton Democratic sites, myDD, is not all that happy with her about this (understatement).

She should just shut her mouth and stop trying to justify her dragging this nomination on to eternity.
