Picking up from my earlier what-if 1980 Reagan/Cheney vs Carter/Mondale thread

In 1980, Governor Ronald Reagan and Congressman Dick Cheney defeat President Jimmy Carter and Vice President Walter Mondale by an electoral vote count of 431 to 107.

To continue with the scenario

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan and Vice President Dick Cheney defeat former Vice President Walter Mondale and Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro by an electoral vote count of 525 to 13.

Now the matter at hand

In 1988, Vice President Dick Cheney, after serving the past 8 years as a very capable Vice President, and given much responsibility by President Reagan, wins the Republican Presidential nomination unopposed.

After his victory in 1980, Reagan selects his main competitor for the nomination, George H W Bush, for Secretary of State.

Bush, former Congressman from Texas, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., former Chief of the U.S. Liaison Office in Beijing, former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, gained world wide praise for his outstanding performance as Secretary of State for 8 years, and for his ability to bring diverse factions together.

Presidential nominee Cheney selects Secretary of State George H W Bush of Texas as the Vice Presidential nominee.

The Democrats nominate Governor Michael Dukakis of Massachusetts for President and he selects respected Senator Lloyd Bentsen of Texas for Vice President.

How does this 1988 election turn out?

Republican
Vice President Dick Cheney (WY)
Secretary of State George H W Bush (TX)

Democrat
Governor Michael Dukakis (MA)
Senator Lloyd Bentsen (TX)

Please discuss, using maps if you choose.

Are you joking?  This is not 2008 Cheney, where this still would not happen

According to the scenario, this would represent a 525 EV drop for the Republicans, or 100% drop

More likely map:
Dukakis does a little better in the Northeast,

Dude, I was not being serious.  How could you entertain the notion that I was?  This would be my actual prediction:

Richard B. Cheney/George H.W. Bush (R): 340 EV, 53% of the PV
Michael Dukakis/Lloyd Bentsen (D): 198 EV, 47% of the PV

Governor Dukakis performs much better than in RL against Vice President Cheney, however it's not enough for Governor Dukakis to become President Dukakis. Thus, Vice President Dick Cheney becomes 41st President of the United States.

I think I'd know if I were being serious or not.  Besides, how could I be serious with a 51 state blowout for the Democrats?

Which map?  The joke, 51 state win map, or my serious map?

So if I understand this correctly, Constine posted a Democratic sweep map because he is an idiot and a delusional leftist, and he is an idiot and a delusional leftist because he posted a Democratic sweep map.

Is that, essentially, your argument?

Not only is the logic faulty, but the conclusion is faulty as well.  I am neither an idiot nor delusional; I posted the blood map to get a rise out of people like you and gporter.  And it worked Smiley

No, you posted it cause you have no knowledge of the topic and your brain said "Cheney" and "election"="Dem landslide"

I think I'd know why I posted it.  And, to prove I was joking, I'll show the 1980 version:
The presence of the evil Dick Cheney on the ticket repulses all voters, and Carter wins every state.

This is more exciting than gporter's November 22nd 1963 timeline and slightly more logical!

That made no sense.

What do you mean that it made no sense? What grade are you in, pre-k ot maybe even younger than that.

Two negative numbers multiplied or divided by eachother and sometimes added and subtracted from eachother  make a positive number.

Mr. oh I am so perfect and I have been studying politics since I was five years old. Everyone else is a hack except me.

You need to understand that the world does not revolve only around you.

What the hell are you talking about?  I know the math involved, I'm saying that DWDL had no reason to say that.  I've never said everyone is a hack but me; just you and DWDL.  Why would I think the whole world revolves around me?

It is just the idea that I get through the way that you act around the forum and the way that you treat me, that is why I think that you have the idea that the world only revolves around you.

That was the single most unintelligible sentence in the English language.

DWDL, it really would be best if you quit while you're behind.  You've been treading on very thin ice already of late.
