In 1952 the Republican Party had lost 5 presidential elections in a row. Their hatred for the Truman Administration and the New Deal had been hushed for 12 years, but by 1952 the Grand Old Party sought Victory. The candidates were:

Dwight D. Eisenhower: A reluctant candidate who once said, "I will not accept any position from dogcather to grand High Supreme King of the Universe," Eisenhower entered the 1952 Republican Primaries after seeing a mass "Draft Eisenhower" rally in 1951. He is an internationalist and a more moderate Republican. 1944 and 1948 Republican Presidential nominee Thomas Dewey is supporting General "Ike". Most of all he is a war hero having led the Allies to victory at D-Day.

Robert Taft: Known as "Mr. Republican" Senator Robert Taft is a vehnement oponent to New Deal spending and internationalism. His suporters are mainly Conservative isolationists. Taft ran for the GOP nomination in 1940,1944, and 1948. He is recieving the support of the "Grandfather of the Republican Party" former President Herbert Clark Hoover.

Earl Warren: The popular Governor of and favoite son of California, Earl Warren is a progressive Republican with Democratic backing. Overwhelmingly reelected in 1946, Governor Warren was the Republican Vice Presidential nominee in 1948 with Thomas Dewey.

Harold Stassen: A Senator from Minnesota and the runner up in the 1948 Republican primaries, Harold Stassen is running in his second of 9 times he will run for President.

He never stood much of a chance, but neither did Stassen.

Stassen had more of a chance than MacArthur.

MacArthur was still extremely popular in 1952, even more so after Truman fired him.

That's true, but youm must remember that Stassen had an organization, and MacArthur didn't.

Had MacArthur really campaigned for the job he would have done quite well, but no one could beat Eisenhower.
