Reagan would have won alot of the conservative voters who were dissatisfied with ford but didn't want to vote for Carter. You're right...Carter landslide

I would actually see Reagan hurting Carter moreso than Ford, allowing Jerry to win, 272-266.

Reagan smashes any hope Ford had, popular vote winner is Carter, but Reagan and Ford combine for more.  Ford focuses on winning big targets, and most of the South is a two-way race between Reagan and Carter.  Many conservative mountainwest states are battles between only Reagan and Ford.  Map:
